The journey of MARS Consultants began with Alexander Marsden's extensive experience in construction and environmental safety, particularly in the asbestos sector. Observing gaps in the industry, Alexander envisioned a consultancy that provides personal, face-to-face support, especially for individuals and small businesses, ensuring reliable, hands-on assistance in managing asbestos risks safely and confidently. At MARS Consultants, we fill the gap of larger consultancies who provide a one-size-fits-all service, we offer a reliable, hands-on approach to help people manage their asbestos risks safely and confidently.
About Alexander J Marsden
With extensive experience in the asbestos industry - beginning at the age of 20 - I’ve developed a strong foundation and a broad skill set as an asbestos consultant. My career started at ASKAMS Ltd as a trainee asbestos surveyor, where I earned my BOHS P402 qualification and quickly immersed myself in the field. Eager to grow and learn, I began assisting senior surveyors on more complex and high-risk sites, including schools, hospitals, prisons, and various commercial and industrial facilities.
As I gained confidence and deeper understanding of my responsibilities, I progressed through several companies - often due to acquisitions or closures. Eventually, I joined OHS Ltd, where I was appointed as a senior lead surveyor, taking charge of large-scale surveying projects. During this time, I expanded my qualifications by achieving the RSPH Level 3 in Asbestos Air Monitoring, which allowed me to carry out air testing and four-stage clearances. This added flexibility to my role and enhanced the value I brought to the teams I worked with.
My final move within the consultancy world was to Franks Portlock, where I began to seriously consider the possibility of becoming self-employed. I saw others successfully transitioning into freelance roles and subcontracting for consultancies, and it made me think - if they can do it, why can’t I? That mindset led me to take the leap and start something of my own.
After years of working hard and gaining experience across a range of environments, I felt the time was right to build something I truly believed in. That’s how MARS Consultants was born - founded on passion, determination, and a commitment to providing high-quality, personal asbestos risk management. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited for what the future holds.
